FuHsing
This summer I had the privilege of teaching 36 middle and high school students from the Taipai FuHsing Private School in Taiwan. The students were attending a cultural immersion program sponsored by Meredith College's Global Education Initiative. To honor the students and to celebrate the completion of this summer's program, I created this vanilla and buttercream cake. The circle designs were based upon the Meredith College FuHsing logo. The top design was the Taiwanese flag, a cutout of the USA, and a Meredith logo in the middle. The Meredith logo (my favorite part...can you tell I am an alum?) represented the unification of Taiwanese and American cultures.

To the Rescue
To celebrate my youngest son's 3rd birthday, I created this vanilla and mint chocolate cake and covered it with buttercream and fondant. I included his favorite characters: Red the Firetruck from Cars, Curious George, Warehouse Mouse from Imagination Movers, Pluto, the Backyardigans and of course Buzz Lightyear. He loved it...even the leaning, burning building!

WWII Birthday
Like his mother, my oldest son loves history. He is really interested in WWII so for his birthday, he requested a WWII cake. I created the planes, the helmets, the propellor, and the spotter cards from fondant. Since this cake was made for family, we tried out a new flavor -- mint chocolate chip -- on one of the layers. It was a hit!

Butterfly Train
A good friend of ours asked us to create a train cake to celebrate her daughter's 6th birthday. Because the party was going to be at the Museum of Life and Science, I made it into a butterfly train and included the animals found at the musuem. My husband liked the sheep but I love the bear best! The cake was chocolate and covered with buttercream and fondant icing. Yum! I bet the only part left uneaten was the snake...
