Happy Birthday, Harry!

Last year a peacock chose my sister's-in-law backyard as his new home. Now a member of the family, I created this cake to celebrate his anniversary. I love the gumpaste peacock and the handpainted feathers on the bottom tier, but the sugar tiles are my favorite part! Although Harry the Peacock did not get a bite, the family loved it - they even ate the tiles!

An American Girl

To celebrate the 10th birthday of a friend's daughter, I created this American Girl-inspired cake. During the party the girls watched a movie about how friendship can overcome bullying. The flower pot as well as the stepping stones were based upon themes and sets in the movie. I used both vanilla and chocolate cakes. The stones were covered in buttercream and the flower pot was covered with marshmellow fondant. My favorite part of the cake was the gumpaste daisies. I guess I will always be a Meredith girl!

The Force Is Strong in This One...

For my son's 6th birthday, he wanted a Star Wars theme. This cake took a lot of thought (I am not a Star Wars guru)! Despite the humidity doing a number on the fondant, I think it turned out well. His friends loved the chocolate and vanilla flavors as well as the buttercream and marshmellow fondant. But they loved the light sabers (made of pool noodles) and the jedi training part of the party more!
